History

Beti Metlika company had this name as from the very beginning. It was founded in 1956 under the name that signifies an abbreviation made from initials of the original company name ‘Belokranjska trikotažna industrija’ which was for a long time also its parallel name. It did not take long for the company to become the largest company in Bela Krajina, thus contributing significantly to reducing the intensive migration from the region. During its development, Beti has seen several reorganizations, in addition to a constant increase in the scale of operations and offer which soon went beyond the framework of merely knitted wear products. Sometimes, those reorganizations were the consequence of the state policy, but most frequently of the company’s internal development strategy. At the end of1970s, the explicitly functional orientation was replaced by product-programme organisation of the company, and three production-sales programmes were formed: Preja, Metraža and Konfekcija. At that time, also the extended name of the company was changed, and thus Belokranjska trikotažna industrija became Beti Tekstilna industrija, d.d.
